Green cars are the next big thing in the automobile industry. Every automaker is striving to make their lineups “greener”. BMW is one such automaker. There are reports that the Bavarian automaker is planning to release a spanking new hybrid dubbed the “2017 BMW i8S”. The model will make a maiden appearance during BMW’s 100th anniversary next year with a production model following in 2017.

2017 BMW i8S Exterior

The 2017 BMW i8S will undergo a significant exterior redesign compared to the current model. To start with, the weight of the new model will be lower at 1,485 kg. This is due to the use of carbon fiber and aluminum in construction of its chassis, body and other parts.

The model will feature a futuristic design accentuated by laser headlights which are mounted below the bumper in a manner that makes the car look more aggressive. The front also features the signature butterfly grille which also adds to its aggressiveness. The front bumper has been enlarged to make its look more powerful. At the rear, the taillights are sharp-looking to compliment its overall sporty character

On the sides, the vehicle will feature 2 butterfly doors which are particularly outstanding. The i8S will ride on big wheels to help manage its powerful engine and driving characteristics. Green, silver, back and red exterior colors will be offered.

2017 BMW i8S Interior

Though details on the new BMW i8S interior styling are still scanty, we know the cabin will be as sporty as the outside. From the little information we have, we understand the vehicle will feature sports seats which will be power adjustable to ensure comfortable seating for people of different sizes. The seats will also be upholstered in fine leather.

The cabin will also feature a large touch-screen which will help in managing its infotainment system. The steering wheel will also be redesigned to make it easy to maneuver the car even in high speeds. The most up-to-date technology features will also make their way to the cabin. They will include Wi-Fi connectivity, USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, Smartphone integration, and a modern audio system among others.

Safety on the 2017 BMW i8S has been prioritized and the model will feature automatic airbags, enhanced seatbelts, traction and stability control, ABS as well as a full package of driving aids including, lane keep assist, forward collision warning and parking assist.

Engine Specs and Performance

Details about the 2017 BMW i8S drive-train are still a closely guarded secret. However, our credible sources indicate that the automaker is considering two hybrid drive-trains.

The first drive-train is a twin-turbocharged inline-four engine good for 320 hp, it is paired with an electric motor capable of producing 204 hp.

The second engine a 3.0 L, inline-6 that produces 480 hp. The engine is paired with an electric motor good for 109 hp. Whichever drive-train the automaker finally settles on, the i8S will deliver more than 500 horses.

The engine chosen will be mated to a 9-speed dual clutch transmission system. The vehicle is estimated to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and achieve a top speed of 155 mph.

Price and release date

BMW is yet to announce official prices of the 2017 BMW i8S. However, according to rumors, the model will have a starting price of around $ 175,000. The model is expected to be released in the second half of 2017 so it’s still too early to expect official reports on its price.
