Many will be surprised to learn that the current BMW 6 Series has been on the market since 2011. The model, which is available in coupe and convertible bodies, still looks stunning. Credit must be given to the automaker’s designers for coming up with the stunning body. The automaker plans to revise the models to hook them up with the latest features in the industry. The 2018 BMW 6-Series we have spotted doing test runs are covered in heavy camouflage, an indication that the automaker is planning to make a number of changes for the models. Read along to find out more about the potential changes.

2018 BMW 6-Series Exterior:

Although I don’t expect the automaker to change the design language, the new 6 Series will feature a host of visual upgrades. As usual, expect the kidney grille to feature; in fact, from the testing mule, the grille looks wider than before. The grille also features active shutters, which enhance the model’s aerodynamics. Slimmer headlights will flank the new grille.

At the rear, the roof slants to form an attractive fastback look. It also features a trailing spoiler that has a mild upturn on the trunk lid. The taillights also look modified.

In addition to the coupe and convertible bodies, rumor has it that the automaker will add a 4-door Gran Coupe. Keep it here for more updated on the upcoming BMW 6 Series styling.

2018 BMW 6-Series Interior:

Due to the heavy camouflage, we could not get a glimpse of the inside. I expect the automaker to hook up the models with a new futuristic dash. Most likely, the automaker will mount a huge central display screen at the top of the dash. Below the screen will be air vents for the climate control system. Like other beemers, expect the automaker to maintain a clean face with only minimum buttons, only maintaining a gear shifter and the infotainment control knob.

Alcantara and premium leather will be the standard upholstery materials. Surfaces not covered by leather or Alcantara will feature either aluminum or wood accents. Front seats will be power adjustable with ventilation, heating and massage features.

Tech-wise, BMW does not disappoint. As such, expect the model to feature the most up-to-date infotainment system, navigation system, induction phone charging, Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and a premium Harmon Kardon sound system among many more impressive features. The industry is going the autonomous way; therefore, expect the model to feature a host of semi-autonomous features such as autonomous braking, blind-spot monitoring, brake assist, traffic light recognition, self parking, autonomous braking and adaptive cruise control to name just but a few.

The top M6 trim will feature a carbon fiber trim, bolstered sport seats as well as motorsport-inspired apps to help monitor your performance if you decide to take your model racing on weekends.

Engine specs and performance:

BMW is yet to confirm engines that will power the 6 Series. However, I think the automaker will use the same lineup as the one on the current 5 Series. As such, expect the new 6 Series to feature the turbocharged 3.0 L inline 6 that powers the 540i. The engine produces 350 horses and 340 lb-ft of torque on the 540i.

Diesel lovers will also have their fill with a turbocharged straight-six mill good for 330 hp. The automaker may also add a 4.4 L, V-8 that produces 475 horses. Going by the current trends, the automaker may even add a hybrid drive-train. The top-of-the-range M6 will get an upgraded 4.4 L, V-8 that will be capable of generating 600 horses. RWD will be standard but the automaker will offer the xDrive AWD system as an option.

Price and release date:

It is too early to talk about prices as the model is still on its development stages. With the new upgrades, expect the price to rise slightly from the current model’s starting price of $77,600.

The top trim will attract in excess of $100,000. BMW will likely showcase the 6 Series at an international show in 2017 before sales commence in late 2017 or in the first quarter of 2018.
