General Motors has already released photos of a new Opel Insignia without any camouflage. This car is the identical twin of America’s Buick Regal with exception of the badges. We can, therefore, tell what the 2018 Buick Regal will look like. Things get more exciting as I understand Buick will launch a Regal wagon in the US market. Buick has already Trademarked the “Regal TourX” nametag which confirms that there will be a Buick Regal wagon for the 2018 model year in the U.S.A. According to rumors, the US version of the wagon will look slightly different from the Europe’s version. Rumor has it that the model will be slightly raised and with a crossover-like body like that of the Volvo Cross Country or the Subaru Outback.

Buick Regal Exterior:

The 2018 Buick Regal will ride on the same platform as the current Chevrolet Malibu. The platform known as the 2XX translates to a lighter curb weight and a spacious cabin for the 2018 Regal. From the testing mule, the new Buick Regal will feature LED headlights and taillights, and dual tailpipes.

Considering the whole body was wrapped in heavy camouflage material, expect the model to undergo a massive overhaul. As such, expect a more premium looking sedan ready to battle the likes of BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 sedans. More information will suffice close to the model’s release date.

Buick Regal Interior:

Increased cabin space means more space for passengers. The cabin will also feature a new dash layout. The automaker will also upgrade the Regal’s equipment to remain in touch with the competitors. As such, expect the most up-to-date Intellilink infotainment system that enables Smartphone and 4G connectivity while its navigation system will feature voice control.

The model will also offer the latest driving aids such as parking assist, forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning among others. The cabin will be upholstered in quality material on lower trims and leather on higher trims. I hope GM considers using leather on all trims as some of the model’s rivals do.

Engine Specs and performance:

Buick is still mum about the mill that will power the 2018 Regal. However, three mills are likely. The most likely engine is a turbocharged 2.0 L, 4-cylinder engine. This engine will use the automaker’s new 9-speed automatic gearbox. The mill is currently used on the Malibu where it produces 250 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. Credible report intimate that the model will lose the current naturally aspirated 2.4 L, 4-cylinder mill in favor of a turbocharged 1.5 L,4-cylinder mill also found in the current Malibu. This engine produces 163 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. The engines will be offered in front-wheel-drive with an option for AWD.

Further reports indicate that the automaker is planning to hook up the GS trim with even a more powerful mill. The unit being fronted is a turbocharged 2.0 L, V-6 powerplant which is expected to produces in excess of 300 horses. This engine will also be paired to the new 9-speed transmission that will send power to all four wheels. It is not clear whether the automaker will retain the optional 6-speed manual gearbox.

Price and release date:

For sure, we do not know when the automaker plans to release the 2018 Buick Regal. However, the model is likely to hit dealerships in the second half of this year (2017) after showing face in an international auto show, probably at the Geneva Auto show in the spring of this year. The starting price of the model will increase from the base model’s current $27,990 to more than $30,000.
