BMW X5:
Photos of the upcoming 2017 BMW X5 have been doing rounds on the internet for quite some time now. Although the model is under heavy camouflage, we can work out a host of styling cues from the photos. We expect all-rounded changes including engine upgrades. The good thing about the X5 is how well it balances luxury, versatility and convenience. The X5 is also quite frugal for a model its size courtesy of its xDrive intelligent AWD technology as well as the EfficientDynamics eDrive.
While most SUVs actually emphasize on utility at the expense of the ‘sport’ aspect, this is not the case with the X5 as it manages to combine both aspects seamlessly. This makes the SUV family friendly while still offering a dynamic driving experience. Read along to find out more about this SUV:

BMW X5 Exterior:
Although the vehicle we captured doing testing was heavily camouflaged, it is instantly recognizable as a BMW. Its front end is characterized by the signature radiator grille synonymous with BMW. The grille is flanked by compact headlights that feature a ring of LEDs. Chrome is used extensively on the front fascia. The front fender has been redesigned to look more aerodynamic. The new front fascia looks bolder and sportier.
Moving over to the flanks, the model features huge wheel arches which hint at 20- to 22-inch wheels although the model is normally offered in 18- to 20-inch wheels. Most of the side profile was hidden meaning the model will receive a host of new updates.
The rear, on the other hand looks to have borrowed styling cues from the X3 as its tailgate and fender looks similar to those of the X3. The model’s sporty exhaust tips and taillights also look similar to those of the X3. Overall, the model looks sporty and aggressive.
BMW X5 Interior:
Little is known about the 2017 BMW X5 interior as of this writing. However, I expect the cabin to be carried over largely unchanged from the outgoing model. The SUV will accommodate 5 passengers spread across two rows. The rear seats will be highly adjustable to ensure rear passengers remain comfortable even during long trips. Buyers with large families can opt for a third row of seats which is suitable for children. The model will have better storage compartments on the doors to carry larger drinks. In terms of cargo space, the SUV offers 650 liters when the rear seats are up. The space expands to 1,870 liters upon folding the rear seats.

As you would expect of BMW, the SUV will be adequately equipped. Standard features will include a 10.2-inch touch-screen infotainment system, a multifunctional steering wheel, a rear camera, a dual-zone climate control system, a HUD display and a powerful 13-speaker audio system. The model will also feature various driving aids such as parking assist, lane change assist, blind spot monitoring and front collision mitigation with emergency brake assist among others.

Engine Specs and performance:
The X5 will be offered in a number of engines. The first mill on the base X5 sDrive35i models will be a 3.0 L, inline-6 which is good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft of torque. This engine will power the SUV to make a 0-60 mph run in 6.0 seconds which is pretty impressive for the base model. The X5 will also be offered with a hybrid drive-train (X5 xDrive40e). The setup will pair the xDrive40e electric motor with a 2.0 L, 4-cylinder engine which will produce 308 horses.
For more power, buyers can opt for the Xdrive50i’s 4.4 L turbocharged V-8. This mill pumps out a whopping 445 horses, which powers the SUV to 60 mph from standstill in 4.7 seconds. However, this will not be the most powerful engine in the lineup. That crown goes to the X5 M. This model adds another turbocharger to the already impressive 4.4 L mill to bump power output to 567 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. In addition, the X5 M gets various performance upgrades.
All engines will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission system. All models will manage to return around 20 mpg on combined drives. It is not clear whether a turbo-diesel mill will be offered in the North American market. We will update you as soon as new information on the model becomes available.

Price and release date:
BMW is yet to release details of the 2017 BMW X5 prices or release date. However, according to rumor mills, the base X5 sDrive35i will have a starting price of around $54,000 while the top-of-the range Xdrive50i will attract a price tag of around $70,000.
The performance-tuned X5 M will start from around $100,000. The X5 is expected to be showcased at an international auto show in December or early next year before being delivered to dealerships later next year.
