Hyundai Azera(2017)

The 2017 Hyundai Azera or Hyundai Grandeur in Korea, is already out in the market. Unfortunately, the automaker won’t be offering the new model in the U.S. market. The Azera has failed to capture any significant portion of the U.S. market. Back in 2006, the model sold over 26,000 units in the U.S. However, after that, sales have plummeted to a low of just over 5,000 units in 2015. Therefore, despite the upgrades that bring a dose of excitement to the model, Hyundai will not offer the Azera in the U.S. market.

However, not all is lost for Azera enthusiasts as the automaker is looking at the possibility of producing U.S.-specific models that specifically take care of the needs of the North American customers. That apart, Hyundai has upgraded the model to look more stylish on the outside and offer more comfort on the inside. Read along for more information:

Hyundai Azera Exterior:

The new Azera has received a number of visual upgrades to make it look more appealing than the outgoing model. However, the exterior retains the outgoing model’s familiar look. Most changes are concentrated on the front fascia where there are new aprons.

The front fascia also sports new fog lights. New black inserts have been added on the lower grille. These inserts combine with the new LED headlights to give the model a sporty-like appearance. The new fog lights are however only available on the Limited trim models. The base model continues with the same units as the outgoing model. The grille is also new and features horizontal blades that appear to float along with the frame.

The rear is unchanged except for the addition of a new bumper. On the flanks, the Azera rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels. It also features heated mirrors. The limited trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights and xenon headlights with automatic high-beam control.

Hyundai Azera Interior:

The interior also features a couple of changes. Sliding inside, you will immediately notice the new center stack which features a new 8.0-inch color LCD display, which supports the vehicle’s navigation system. The screen is also integrated with Smartphone apps. Illuminated sill plates on the doors, a previous preserve of the Limited trim is now standard. Other features are largely unchanged.

The seats are still upholstered in leather. In addition, the model features a 12-way power driver’s seat. The seat also has memory settings, seat-bottom extension and lumbar adjustment. The front passenger seat is 8-way power adjustable. The front seats are heated and ventilated while the rear seats are only ventilated. The rear seats have a 60/40 split-folding function which comes in handy when one needs to haul long objects.

The standard model also features keyless entry and ignition, and dual-zone climate control. For audiophiles, the Azera offers a 14-speaker infinity sound system with a CD player, HD radio, USB and auxiliary audio inputs.

In terms of safety, the Azera is well equipped with technologies such as Blind spot monitoring, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert and lane change alert. The model also comes with a Smart Trunk Opener as well as a Blue Link system.

The Limited trim adds adaptive cruise control with a stop-start functionality for saving fuel, a lane-departure warning, forward collision warning, electronic parking brake, rear parking sensors as well as an automatic hold function that allows the driver to remove his/her foot from the brake while the vehicle is stopped.

Engine Specs and performance:

Under the hood of the new Hyundai Azera is a 3.0L, V-6 engine that produces 270 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque. This will be the base engine; for more power, the automaker offers a 3.3 L, V-6 mill good for 294 horses and 255 lb-ft of torque. The engines are paired with 6-speed automatic transmission system that channels power to the front wheels.

In addition, the sedan can be programmed into three driving modes, which are Normal, Eco and Sport. The 3.3 L engine enables the Azera to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds. The engine is EPA rated at 19 mpg in city, 28 mpg on highway and 22 mpg on combined drives.

The Azera also features electric power steering with progressive characteristics and fully independent suspension featuring MacPherson struts up front and a multilink unit at the rear.

Price and release date:

The base 2017 Hyundai Azera trim has an MSRP of $34,100 while the Limited trim has a starting price of $39,300. The model is already on dealer showrooms.
