Hyundai particularly created the Genesis brand to compete with premium brands. To expand the brand, Hyundai is set to launch the third member of the brand dubbed the 2018 Genesis G70. The model is set to compete with the likes of BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Read along to find out more about the new sedan:

Genesis G70 Exterior:
The new sedan is still in its development stages and we only have photos of its testing mule as of this writing. The prototype undergoing testing is covered in heavy camouflage such that it is difficult to make much out of it. However, considering Hyundai is looking to make the Genesis lineup a full-fledged brand, I expect the automaker to derive inspiration from the G80 and G90 for the new sedan’s exterior styling.

At the front, the G70 will likely feature a huge grille similar to that on the G80 or G90.The grille will feature horizontal slats. Slim LED headlights will flank the grille. The bumper will have vertical air intake on each corner. The model will also feature a muscular hood.
At the rear, the taillights of the model seem to be slimmer too; they also extend well into the trunk lid and seem to feature a new LED pattern. There also seems to be a trunk lid spoiler hidden under the camouflage. In addition, there seems to be a beefy bumper that will support quad exhaust or dual exhaust tips. The G70’s roof design seems to be borrowed from the G80. The roof slopes elegantly to meet the shorter decklid and spoiler culminating in a sporty look that matches if not outshines the look of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class or the BMW 3 Series.

Genesis G70 Interior:
It was impossible to get clear shots of the cabin due to the heavy camouflage on the testing prototype. I think the cabin of the G70 will be inspired by that of the G80. As such, the cabin will have premium features. Leather and Alcantara will be the standard upholstery materials. The seats will be heated, ventilated and power adjusted. An attractive contrast stitching will hold together the upholstery materials. Wood trim will also feature for a premium look. The cabin will also be excellently designed to rival the Mercedes, BMW and Cadillac nemeses.
Going by its competitors, the sedan will likely feature a huge screen and a digital instrument cluster. A navigation system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay as well as other latest connectivity features will be offered as standard. A SiriusXM, Bluetooth connectivity, USB auxiliary jacks and HR Radio will also be standard. Top trims will feature a premium sound system as standard.
Like its elder sister, the G80, the G70 may also offer a superior shoulder room and legroom compared to its rivals. In addition, the sedan could also offer the best cargo space in the segment. More information will be available once we get clearer shots of the 2018 Genesis G70 cabin.

Engine Specs and performance:
The automaker is yet to reveal the lineup of engines that will power the 2018 G70. I would put my money on two drive-trains. The first likely mill that will power the entry-level models is the turbocharged, 4-cylinder mill that powers the current Hyundai Sonata. This engine produces 245 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
The second mill to power the top trims will likely be the twin-turbocharged 3.3 L, V-6 that powers the current G90. This engine produces 365 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. I expect the engine to produce the same amount of power in the G70.
Rumor has it that the automaker may also offer a plug-in hybrid drive-train. The possible mill is the one used by the Sonata. It combines a turbocharged 2.0 L engine with an electric motor to produce 202 horses. All the engines will likely be paired to a 6-speed automatic gearbox that will convey power to the rear wheels.

Price and release date:
Like the engine, details of theG70’s price are not available as of this writing. The automaker must price it competitively to stand any chance in a segment dominated by German-made automobiles. As such, the G70 should be priced in a way to undercut the German sedans such as the BMW 3 Series, which has an MSRP of $33,450.
